Meet LG’s four new midrange phones: Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy

LG got a head start on the smartphone rush that comes with Mobile World Congress by announcing four new smartphones: the Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy.

The phones, which range in size and specs, are designed to provide you with affordable, midrange features in more premium-looking housing. All four come in 3G or 4G variants, and include features for taking selfies and glancing at basic information from the notifications pulldown, even when the screen is locked. They’ll debut with Android 5.0 Lollipop, with the exception of the Joy, which may arrive in some markets with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The slightly more expensive Magna and Spirit will come with features normally reserved for LG’s premium range. The two phones will have slightly curved screens, rounded backs to provide better grip and in-cell touch displays — a screen combining the touch sensor and LCD, to make the devices thinner and more responsive.

Gesture Shot and Glass View, features of the company’s flagship G series, will also come installed on the new lineup. Gesture Shot, as it name suggests, allows users to take selfies using hand gestures instead of requiring them to press a button. Glass View lets users view the time, messages and missed calls on the screen while the screen is turned off.

The handsets will go sale in Brazil within this month and sold in other regions later on.

Scroll down for key specs, and stay tuned. We’ll have many more details and hands-on impressions when we see the quartet at MWC.
